OFF TO ENGLAND

PLAYER FAREWELLED

The Johnsonville. Eugby Football Club farewelled the captain of its senior team, Mr. H. A. Trenchard, who is' leaving to join the Royal Air Force, at a smoke concert in the club gymnasium this week. Mr. A. A. Moore presided' over a large attendance of players and supporters. The toast list included "The Johnsonville ' Football Club" (proposed by F. Jacobs and responded to by Mr. H. L. E. Peryman "The Wellington Rugby Football Union" (by Mr. R. Grant and replied to by Mr. H. D. Morgan), and "The Press" (by Mr. T. Bowler). On behalf of the senior team Mr. H. E. C. Chancy presented Mr. Trenchard with a silver cigarette case, and for the club Mr. A. Richardson also made a' presentation. The club supporters, through Mr. G. Janes, gave Mr. Trenchard a leather attache case. Mr. A. C. Kenny, who proposed-the health of the guest of the evening, also presented a tiki charm and club colours on behalf of the Maori members of the club.

In the course of his reply Mr. Trenchard emphasised the value of-'the club spirit which was evident, and to which he attributed the success of the club,, and said that the' 'loyalty of members to the club was. worth more than anything else. Mr. Trenchard then proposed the toast of "The Senior TeanV and its Future Success," Messrs. H. L. E. Peryman and H. E. C. Chancy, the joint coaches, replying. During the evening Messrs. J. Green and R. Flannagan entertained; the accompanist being Mr. Alan Shand.
