OPOTIKI MEETING
PROSPECTS AT TAURANGA
(Special from "Early Bird.")
AUCKLAND, This Day
Fairly good fields are engaged at the Opotiki Jockey Club's Annual Meeting, to be held on the Tauranga racecourse tomorrow. The going will be heavy after a lot of rain throughout the province. Betting will be. under the win-and-place system. A nice field is engaged in the Opotiki Cup and the prospects of Enge are certain to be canvassed after his three fine efforts; at Ellerslie. , Day Wind, too,.ran well enough at Ellerslie to warrant attention* in this weaker classj and Jewelled Girdle is more than useful over a middle distance. Te Hai and Miss Lv will'not lack friends, and of the others Respectful and Win--lona make some appeal. NINE IN STEEPLES. If the nine acceptors go to the post in the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase it should be a fine contest, for Golden England, Lucidus, and Emancipation are useful performers oyer country, and Master Musk is a promising recruit. Chang is overdue, even if he has-not raced for sometime, and Muir's Reef and Friendly Boy have jumpers chances. .:•..-, There will not be many runners in the sprint, the Farewell Handicap, and ,as Johnny Walls ran two very, fine races at his' last appearances, at Te Rapa a month back,'he is the right one for the job, provided: his ill luck does not stick to him, too closely: . Te Hai, Winlona, Sir Tommy, Professional, and Mangukaha are' capable of good efforts as well. - FORM AND CARD.
