POPULAR FIXTURE

MEETING AT GREYMOUTH

Very satisfactory • fields have been secured'for the Greymouth Jockey Club's Winter Meeting on the Omoto course tomorrow, for the fixture holds a rather lonely place on the West Coast schedule. The club raced in the winter in 1932 1933, and 1934, but the meeting was dropped . the next two years. Tomorrow's fields indicate that winter racing on the. Coast is a popular institution, with owners at least. Most of'the horses listed are trained in the district," but there is also a useful contingent from Riccarton. Some of those carded are expected to be sent north for next month's meeting at Trentham, so the form should be worth noting. . , The principal race will be the Grandstand Handicap, which has attracted a fair class of handicapper. Sweet Agnes, who heads the list, has not so far raced this season, but as a six-year-old she is still young ■ enough to stage a comeback and her connections are evidently hopeful that she might. Giggleswick and.Hunting Bag have recently been in form over fences, but they are also good gallopers' on the flat. Metal Bird though he has generally shone over shorter courses, is bred, to stick on. Chaste stays well, and the others in the; list, particularly-; Maroha, are j romising recruits from the hacks. There is considerable overlapping in the fields, but this is usual with Coast meetings and most of the horses doubly engaged will be making two appearances. ■"' ■ ' .
