These successes brought him into favour for the St. Leger,-but a week before the race there were disquieting rumours in circulation about him; an. infected leg became swollen, and the stable fell back oh Boswell. They were fortunate in having a "second string" of the calibre of Boswell, as he won attractively, though at an outside price. This season he was fourth. when favourite, for the Chippenham Stakes, li miles, won by Magnet, and then on May 8 he gained, a hard-earned victoi-y in the Victor Wild Stakes, over the same distance, at Kcmpton Fark."The Barb."' ;
