Two lengths; tour,, Winner bred by owner, and trained, by Captain C, Boyd-Rochfort, Freemason Lodge, Newmarket.
The result of the Ascot Gold Cup, the' leading event in England for stayers, would be well received by English oreeders, as the three placed horses were all bred In the country. Once again the English thoroughbred has scored a notable triumph in this race, despite the fact that probably half the starters would have been made up of horses bred elsewhere. The winner, Precipitation, is stated to be very big horse, typical of the best of Barcaldinj's descendants. Owing to his size it was deemed best hot to race him as a two-yeai>old, and he
made his first appearance on a race* as a three . year . oWt ln the Wood Ditton Stakes, at Newmarket, but was never b possibility, Two months later. - t Manchester> he won the Royal standard stake 3, 1J roiles' by th?ee lengths, but was disqualified for crossing, though many of those who saw the incident oonsider that the result was.not affected. Then followed wins jr the Ki „ g Eclwarc j stakes at Ascot, Gratwlcke stakes at Goodwood, and the Hyperion Stakes at Hurst Park. These - were all over a distance and he
was conceding weight-in each case. These successes brought him into favour for the St. Leger,-but a week before the race there were disquieting rumours in circulation about him; an. infected leg became swollen, and the stable fell back oh Boswell. They were fortunate in having a "second string" of the calibre of Boswell, as he won attractively, though at an outside price. This season he was fourth. when favourite, for the Chippenham Stakes, li miles, won by Magnet, and then on May 8 he gained, a hard-earned victoi-y in the Victor Wild Stakes, over the same distance, at Kcmpton Fark."The Barb."' ;
