Miss Lily Langtry, who waa th* last woman owner to win the Aacot Gold Cup, was one of the most popular stage favourites of latter Victorian times, and rather .'.locked tha Mrs. Grundys of her time by racing, fairly extensively, under the assumed nam* of "Mr. Jersey." Her winning representative, Merman, was an Aui-tralian-bred horse with whom sha had earlier won large sums, including £40,000 over a victory in the Ceaarewitch three yearg previously.—"The Barb."
