MORAL CHAMPION
SCHMELING'S PLACE
GERMAN PROCLAMATION
BERLIN, June 16.
As the outcome of James Braddock's I failure to meet him in New York, the German Boxing Federation has proclaimed Max Schmeling heavyweight boxing champion of the world.
The proclamation states; "Schmel-1 ing's great achievement cannot be set aside by Braddock's broken promises and business manoeuvres. Schmeling's accomplishments give the German nation the right to recognise him as the moral champion of the world." The New York State Boxing Commission on June 3 fined James Braddock 1000 dollars and suspended him for his failure to appear at the weighing-in for his match with Max Schmeling, Germany, that night and declared that any boxer who engaged Braddock also would be suspended. It is probable that a world title bout will take place in Europe between Schmeling and Tommy Farr, the Welshman, whose win over Walter Ncusel was reported yesterday.
