YOUNG FARMERS

EDUCATIONAL TOUR

VISIT TO THE WAIRARAPA

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

MASTERTON, June 16.

An interesting and profitable day was spent yesterday by the fifty members of the Bay of Plenty Young Farmers' Clubs who are visiting the Wairarapa in the course of a North Island tour. After spending the night at Featherston, the party set out yesterday morning for Tauherenikau, where they visited the property of Mr. J. Donald. They were welcomed to the Wairapara by Mr. Ben Roberts, M.P. Mr Donald's Ayrshires were the centre of considerable interest. The visitors were entertained at lunch in Carterton by the Carterton Club. In the afternoon Mr. E. Knutson's two properties at Dalefield were visited and his Friesian stock inspected.

The party reached Masterton late in the afternoon and last evening were the guests of the Mastertor Young Farmers' Club at the performance of "Florodora," in the. Opera House. The entertainment was greatly enjoyed.

This morning a visit was paid to Sir William Perry's property, Penrose, where his well-known Romneys were inspected. The party proceeded to Pahiatua for lunch.

Mr; C. Walker, o£ the Department of Agriculture, Tauranga, who is in charge of the visitors, stated yesterday that the tour, which covered a period of eleven days, had proved of great educational value to the members of the party. Visits had been paid to various places of interest in Waikato, Taranaki, Rangitikei, Manavvatu, and Wellington before coming to the Wairarapa and the tour would end at Dannevirke. There was little cropping or sheep farming in the Bay of Plenty district and the members of the party had gained considerable knowledge of these phases of farm practice.
