AUCKLAND, June 14.

The recent decision of the Canterbury Manufacturers'. Association in forwarding to the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation a recommendation that the position brought about in connection wirh the question of payment for holidays'" bv^a reserved decision given by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., should be rectified by retrospective legislation was supported by the general committee of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association. . ' "I think we can support the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association in this question," commented the president, Mr. F. N. Ambler. -Legislation is going through so fast now that no one quite knows where,, he is. It seems to me that the law draughtsmen ought to be able to interpret awards as they are brought out." Different bodies interested all had their own interpretations of awards, and when eventually matters in dispute came before the Courts, the speaker continued, the Magistrate had to make a decision which might affect any one section to an extent of thousands of pounds. In moving ■ that the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association should be supported and that the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation should be requested to take the matter up with the Government on the lines suggested, Mr. Ambler said the tim,e might also be opportune for several other matters to be clarified. He referred particularly to the position in regard to workers employed for some time in one factory who then obtained positions in factories of a different-type,- where the employsr was forced to pay a higher rate of wages because of the time spent in previous employment. Although the worker was only a beginner as far as that particular work was concerned, the employer was forced to pay a higher rate of wages.
