AT LOWER HUTT
The ceremony of flag planting was well observed in Lower Hutt. The Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, and Councillor M. Macaskill, on behalf of the Borough Council, and Councillors J. Mitchell and J. Brasell, representing the Hutt River Board as well as the council, planted the first flags on the plot in front of the Laing Meason Memorial, near the Hutt Bridge at 10.30 a.m., and afterwards through the day there was a steady stream of "planters.'1 The Mayoress, Mrs. J. W. Andrews, and a large band of lady helpers were kept busy throughout the day selling flags.
