KELBURN BRANCH

The" May meeting of the Kelburn Branch of the League of Mothers was held in Coronation Week. The hall was artistically decorated, the colour scheme being red, white, and blue

As a loyal tribute the meeting opened with the singing of two veises of the National Anthem The president, Mrs. N. Buddie, extended a most cordial

welcome to all visitors, of whom there was quite a number. .....

Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Potaki gave much pleasure with their singing, the latter contributing several Maori numbers. . The piano accompaniments were played by Mesdames Fletcher and Oliver. . . ...

Mrs. H. D.' Bennett's talk on .'•'The Maori Child" proved most interesting and instructive. She said that 100 years ago and prior to that time, the child was the most important member of the family, because it was through the child that the traditions and history of the race were handed down. The Maori had no written language, so the gene'ological tree and the traditions were handed down by word of mouth from one generation to another.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. -Bennett for "a most delightful picture of the Maori people," and to ,the singers, Mrs. Potaki and Mrs. Russell for their songs. Afternoon tea was dispensed. ,
