NEW EDUCATION

FELLOWSHIP CONFERENCE

■„ ENROLMENT EXTENDED

Nearly 3500 registrations of teachers for the New Education Fellowship Conference,' to be held in July in the four provincial centres, have been received to date, according to Mr. G. R. Ashbridge, registration secretary to the National Committee of the conference. They are distributed as follows: —Wellington 1070, punedin 890, Christchurch 850, and Auckland 630.

Mr. Ashbridge informed a "Post" reporter today that numerous applications were being made each day, although the closing date for enrolment had passed. The National Committee, hy said, . "was of the opinion that no teacher could afford to miss the opportunity of meeting such eminent educationists of world-wide repute, and that they should therefore extend the date for registration. The Minister of Education (the Hon. P. Fraser), the Education Department, education boards, and most e'ducsgtional institutions had recognised the value of the conference by doing everything possible to assist teachers to attend. The committee, therefore, had decided that in spite of the increased expense and inconvenience, it would extend the closing date for enrolment to May 25. It was highly improbable that applications received after that date could be accepted, owing to the difficulties of arranging for halls and lecture rooms, These would be selected according to the numbers that had enrolled by May 25. Further, it was imperative that the register of . members should be completed by that date. The fee of £1 was extremely low considering the wealth of material available. All the visiting. lecturers usually received large fees for their work. Indeed, the conference would not be possible had they not offered their services free.' Even though such a large number of people had registered, it would still have been difficult to arrange such an elaborate conference . without . the further assistance. of certain public bodies.
