THE KING'S TROPHY
EMPIRE COMPETITION
Advice of the. result of the, Empire competition for cadets and students of schools and colleges in miniature rifle shooting has been received from the Keeper of the Privy Purse and is released for publication by; the General Officer Commanding'the New Zealand Defence Forces (Msjor-General J. E. Duigan). The King's Trophy was won by South Africa, with. Great Britain and New Zealand in second and third places respectively. There were 28,005 competitors, an increase over lagt. year of-1650. For the King's Trophy South Africa scored an average of 84.317 points; Great Britain scored an average of 82.729; and New Zealand an average of 77.702. New Zealand took fourth place [in the number of medals of honour won, securing thirty-eight silver medals for scores of 100 points, and seventeen bronze medalsV for scores of 99 points
G ■ Company,' 3rd (Cadet) -Battalion, Wellington Regiment (St < Patrick's College, Silverstream), won., second place for Earl Jellicoe's Sjyprd, with' an average score of 95.886 points; and took fifth place on' the Empire Honours List. B and C Companies, Ist (C) Battalion, "Wellington West Coast Regiment (Wanganui Technical College) secured sixty-seventh place;, A Company, Ist' (C) Battalion, Wellington West Coast Regiment (Wanganui Collegiate School) secured seventysixth place; and D. Company; Ist (C) Battalion, Wellington West Coast Regiment (Taihape District High School) secured ninety-third place. ' There were thirteen other New Zealand teams included in' the list. W.O, II A. Taylor, instructor- at St. Patrick's, Silverstream, won an instructor's medal;
