Wood, Minister of lealth, today opened a block of fiats .t Bristol, which is. a new experiment n slum clearance. The flats are being irovided to meet the needs of small amilies and elderly single people who re unable, owing to their work, to noye to outlying.estates, and who.do iot' require full-sized' houses. '• The amilies who. will occupy them are lersons of very small means, and in his scheme the Bristol Corporation is ackling-the hard core of some of the ower-paid workers in slums. The rents of the smallest flats are as ow as 4s a week, inclusive of rates, vater, and electric light, and include ome furniture for the tenants. Sir Kingsley said that the greatest :ontribution that had been made by he present generation to social lmirovement and security had been in ■espect of better housing for the >eople. . ■ - ' :
