row and. rain gradually developing.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued'at noon today, is' for moderate but freshening northeasterly to northerly winds, but there will be a ten'denpy for winds to become more easterly'in direction. ' ■

Although' there has been, a slight rise in' pressure' over New Zealand, there has been a rapid fall to" the north-west, due to the' influence' of a deep tropical cyclone which has recently been operating in ' the New Hebrides group. . Its centre this morning was located to the riorfh of Nor-' folk Island and as it" is moving in a south-south-easterly direction it'sho'uld be" affecting the Auckland province by tomorrow morning';! The weather has been mild generally, and. in East Coast areas mainly fair. But elsewhere it has been rather unsettled with light and scattered rains. "Winds have been chiefly north-easterly to north-wester-ly in direction, and'light to''moderate in force, but yesterday they were strong and squally in parts of the Cook Strait area.

Auckland's weather has been fair and warm, but mostly cloudy, a moderate north-easterly wind having prevailed. At 9 a.m. today it was foggy with a gentle wind- from the east.

Wellington had fair and mild weather yesterday, with 7.9 hours of bright sunshineiA strong and squally northwesterly wind, however, persisted. No rain after 9 a.m^ was recorded at Kejburn, but Lower Hutt had thirteen points.

Christchurch had fine and sunny weather. A light south-westerly blew in the morning and an easterly in the afternoon. It was fair there this morning with a south-westerly breeze.

Dunedin also had a fine and sunny day with little wind, but mist persisted all day along the coast. A north-north-westerly breeze was blowing this morning and the weather was fair.
