PETONE COURT

Cases in the Petone Court yesterday were dealt with.by Mr. H. R'Lawry,

Douglas William Haig, who was represented by Mr. N. T. Gillespie, pleaded not guilty to a charge of pulling out from the kerb without giving a signal, but he was fined £1. Martyn Hamlin was fined 10s for turning to the right without giving a signal.

A fine of £1 was imposed on James Arthur Hogg for failing to give-way to traffic approaching from the right.

With the grace of a veteran prestidigitator, a nonchalant circus elephant stuck its trunk into the pocket of a Paris innkeeper, gently removed a wallet containing 100 francs, and swallowed it. In court, a police commissioner said he was sorry he had no jurisdiction to arrest the elephant.
