PAUPERS' BURIALS

On behalf of the Presbyterian ministers of Wellington, the Rev. A. B. Kilroy, minister of St. Andrew's Church, has been asked to state that the assertion made at the Hospital Board meeting on Tuesday concerning the charge made by ministers for the burial of indigent persons, is entirely incorrect. No Presbyterian minister charges a fee for funerals, and if such-a fee is offered voluntarily he generally seeks to dissuade the dßnor. If, however, the fee is pressed upon him the minister as a rule devotes it to his church funds, and on no account is a fee charged directly, least of all in the case of the poor.
