MELBOURNE DRAPERY FIRM CLOSES DOWN
MELBOURNE, March 23.
The firm of Craig and Williamson, Limited, the large; drapery emporiumwhich has been trading in . Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, for 63 years, is closing business on Thursday. The business has been in the hands of receivers for some time. The premises were offered at auction last .week, but the highest bid of £335,000 was below the reserve and the property was passed in. Tenders were called for the purchase of the stock and book debts. They were opened to-day, when it was announced that Anthony Hordern, Sydney, had purchased the stock, and Ball and Welch, Melbourne, had bought the book: debts. The advertised value of the stock was £131,022 and of the book debts £56,746.
Most of the staff are being absorbed by other Melbourne firms.
