14-INCH GUNS

JAPAN DECLINES LIMIT

TOKIO, March 23.

Cabinet has approved a draft treaty with Great Britain declining the 14----inch gun limit proposed in 1936 under the London Naval Treaty.

A 'message received from London on March 20 stated that it had been confirmed that Japan intended to build 16-inch guns. The Government had verbally informed Sir Robert Clive, British Ambassador in Japan, that it "could not see its way clear to accept the 14-inch limitation."
