FAREWELL DINNER
SQUADRON-LEADER STEDMAN
A farewell dinner in honour of Squadron-Leader G. L. Stedman, who recently resigned from the position of chief pilot-instructor of the Wellington Aero Club, was given at the Royal Oak Hotel last night. The Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop), president of the Wellington Aero Club, presided over an attendance of about seventy members. The Mayor referred to the splendid services Squadron-Leader Stedman had rendered to the club and to aviation generally. Since the club's inception Squadron-Leader Stedman had acted as instructor, and he load played no small part in bringing the club up to the present high standard of efficiency. It was greatly to his credit that no serious crashes had occurred, and a number of pilots he had trained had gained Royal Air Force commissions or obtained responsible positions in commercial aviation.' Wellington was losing the best pilot-instructor in the Dominion.
On behalf of the club the Mayor presented Squadron-Leader Stedman with a suitably-engraved wristlet watch. Squadron-Leader Stedman thanked the Mayor and members of the club for the gift and the expressions of good wishes. '
