MAN WHO STABBED TERRISS
The murder of William Terriss, the famous actor, at the stage door of the Adelphi Theatre, forty years ago, is recalled by, the death of Richard Arthur Prince in Broadmoor Criminal Lunatic Asylum, says the "Daily Telegraph." Prince stabbed Terriss as he was entering the theatre, and at his trial he was found guilty but insane. He had been in Broadmoor since 1898, and died at the age of 71. William Terriss, who had acted with Sir Henry Irving in Shakespearean productions, was the father of Ellaline Terriss, now Lady Hicks. When the tragedy occurred he was playing the leading part in the American Civil War drama "Secret Service." Prince had been employed some years before as a supernumerary at the Adelphi and apparently thought that he had a grievance against Terriss over a benevolent fund grant.
