PHYSICAL TRAINING

TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION

The first year of existence of the Wellington Physical Training Teachers' Association was completed last night when its annual meeting was held. Mr. H. E. Longworth presided.

The report stated that the association had been inaugurated last May to promote and foster in educational circles a higher sense of the importance of; correct and systematic training, and to encourage a greater degree of efficiency in those engaged in teaching physical exercise. It would seem the association's goal, judging by the knowledge and contacts obtainable by the monthly meetings, was within sight. Notices had been sent to 15 teachers, and 11 had become financial members. One applicant for membership had been unsuccessful. It was hoped that in the near future the association would have a library to assist members in their work. Teachers in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Auckland had shown interest in the association, and similar associations had been formed in those centres. That having been completed, a movement for a national body had been started. Every indication now was that a meeting of delegates from the four centres would be held at Easter to discuss the formation' of a national association. The report detailed the series of lectures and practical demonstrations that had been held.

It was decided to support a proposal in a ietter from teh Otago Association that the conference to form a national association be held during'the holidays at the end of the first school term.

Motions of thanks to Mr. J. A. Duffy, chairman, and Mr. J. F. Hanna, hon. secretary, for their work during the association's first year, were carried.

The following officers were elected:— Patron, Dr. A. Gillies; president, Mr. H. E. Longworth; chairman, Mr. J. A. Duffy; hon. secretary, Mr. C. P. WilsonGrant; committee, Messrs. J. A. Duffy, P. G. Thompson, C. P. Wilson-Grant, Miss C. J. Wells, Mrs. Taylor.
