The first admission of fortification of the Rhineland was made by Major Jost, of the War Ministry, in an article in commemoration of the first anniversary of the re-occupation. ' He said that without slavish imitation of the French Maginot line, which needed many years and countless millions of francs to create, the German frontier territory now enjoys again today the protection of fortresses.
