Alexander Mines, Limited, report for the month of February:—No. 5 level winze: No work has been carried on here owing to no men being available to carry on sinking. No. 6 crosscut: Driving has been continued with two shifts daily for a footage of 55ft, making a total of 80ft from surface. The air and water pipes having been laid, and the machines installed, better progress should now be made. Stoping has been carried on as usual above the intermediate and No. 5 level backs. Stoping above the intermediate :.was confined to the portion south of the fault line. This portion of the block has now been taken out, but a fair' amount of ore remains to be stoped I out north of the fault line. ■ Above No. 5 the stopes look well, a lode of average width showing in all faces. A block of ground on the south side of the north rise is opening up nicely, the reef improving in size when stoped upwards. During the month 394 tons were sent to the battery and 400 tons were ' crushed for a return of 2220z 17dwt of melted gold. During the same period the cyanide department treated 258 tons of sands for 620z 17dwt of bullion. Total estimated value, £1975. In addition 8.7 tons of concentrates, were saved, valued at £245.
