TEMPERANCE WOMEN
BROOKLYN ACTIVITIES
The first meeting for the year of the Brooklyn branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held recently in the Baptist Church "parlour. Mrs. Heed, the newly-appointed presi-j dent, occupied the chair and conducted the devotions. Mrs. Baudinet led in prayer.
Mrs. Stinson volunteered to visit those who are iIL Mrs. Webster, scientific temperance superintendent, wrote stating that she was unable to attend meetings this year. Mrs. Gillings was chosen to fill her place, and the secretary was instructed to write Mrs. Webster and thank her for the valuable help she has given since the inception of the branch. Mesdames White and Pickering ■ volunteered .to visit the Wellington Hospital during March.
Mrs. Butler was appointed delegate to the annual Dominion Convention'in Christchurch. Remits were considered and adopted. Mrs. Prestige, a visitor from New Plymouth, was. cordially welcomed.
The treasurer's financial statement showed a satisfactory cash balance.
Correspondence was read from Miss Norrie thanking members for comfort bags sent to the Sailors' Rest at Timaru; and from the Ladies' Auxiliary of tile Wellington Hospital . arranging thel year's visiting. Afternoon tea was served by the Baptist ladies and Mrs. Pearson sold vegetables and home-made pickles at her "Bring and Buy" stall.
