CONVENTION REMITS
The Wellington branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met recently. Mrs. Mowlem presided and led the devotional period, taking for her subject "Patience." Mrs. Mowlem spoke of the work of the National Council of Women. Mrs. Harris reported on the work of the hospital auxiliary. The need of warm quilts for the poor was discussed, and gifts of same requested for the winter. Orders were taken for the Convention year book.
The main work of the afternoon was going over the remits for the forthcoming convention, of • which there were a large number. These were read and put to the meeting, and the delegate (Mrs. H. Chisholm) instructed how to vote. A request was received from the Maori Federation, in the form of a remit urging the Government to see that liquor is '. ept out of the King Country, as it works such havoc among the Maori people. A discussion took place on Bible in schools.
Afternoon tea was served and the benediction pronounced.
To clean any diamond-set article of jewellery, pour : a little. whisky or ginj into an egg-cup, and with.a child's paintbrush gently brush stones, back and front, also the ring. Remove, and shake. The spirit will quickly evaporate, and your ring will sparkle beautifully.
