WOOL FOR AMERICA
BOUGHT IN AUSTRALIA
Wool shipments from Australia in the period from.July 1, 1936, to January 31 1937, amounted to 1,674,915 bales. More than 175,000 bales .were shipped to the United States, which is now fourth on the list of. the wool customer countries. The shipments to Japan were 39,324 bales, compared with 472,966 bales in the seven months ended January 31, 1936. ' Britain took 715,872 bales, or more than 42 per cent, of the total wool exports this season to the end of January. The principal wool-using countries of Europe—Belgium, France, Germany, and Italy—increased their imports from Australia this season. The increases in the shipments to these countries and to the United States more than compensated for recent enforced reduction in shipments to Japan. In the following table the shipments to' the principal wool-importing countries for the period July 1 to January 31. 1936 and 1937, are as follows: — Bales. Bales. ' ' 1936. 1937.
