TIN PLATE PRICES ADVANCE.
Owing to increasing activity and » general firming of prices on the metals^ market, the price of tin plate-has beeiv very seriously. affected in. recent weeks. The increase inVprices; compared with those of a few months ago amounts to approximately 15 per cent. Recent cablegrams indicate a further advance. The phenomental demand for steel is largely affecting • the position and increasing difficulties are being encountered in obtaining supplies oi all materials for forward delivery. Already it has been indicated by some nulls that they cannot give delivery according to schedule, and altogether the market is very firm with higher prices indicated. Stocks of plates in New Zealand are reported to be light and supplies coming forward will ■be at much-increased costs. The landed cost, of tin plates some few weeks ago was approximately 58s per box,, whereas today's cost is approximately 67s per box, and the market is still rising.
