WILD SCENE IN MELBOURNE

MELBOURNE, March 7,

Tables and chairs were overturned and a ballot box arid official documents scattered on the floor when several hundred persons yelled and jostled in; a wild scene in a referendum polling booth "in the industrial suburb of Collingwood, Melbourne, on Saturday night. The scene followed the actions of a number of men under the influence of liquor. The presiding official was unable ta cope witti a rush of electors, and, became exhausted. The crowd surged forward and upset ' the table. A general uproar followed, including many fights.

The returning officer, after a fierce struggle, regained the ballot box, an 4 polling subsequently proceeded.
