"A GRAVE MISTAKE^

MR. LYONS'S COMMENT

"ANTI-FEDERATION VOTE"

CANBERRA, This Day.

Commenting on the referendum, tha Prime Minister, Mr. J. 'A. Lyons, said: "I can only say that I feel the people have made a grave mistake, and that the interests of Australia as a whole' will suffer. The Commonwealth and the States are now left powerless to deal with inter-State aspects of organised marketing. The apparent defeat of the aviation proposal can mean nothing but chaos."

"It'was an anti-Federation vote. There can be no denying that there is a spirit oE anti-Federation abroad today. This is the attitude of the Aus tralian people, and it is no good tryint to misconstrue it."
