HIGHLAND DANCING

CALEDONIAN SOCIETY

The annual competitions held by the Wellington Caledonian Society for the Beenie Ballantyne Memorial Cup and the Graham-Moffat Cup drew a large attendance of members and their friends, besides visiting Scots from Hastings and Palmerston North.

The competitions consisted of the Highland fling, seann truibhais, and sword dance, in divisions of under twelve and twelve and under sixteen. In the junior division, the Beenie Ballantyne, there were five competitors. Miss Meta McKenna was first and Master Alastair McLeod second. In the senior division, the Graham-Moffat, there were eight competitors, and the honours were secured by Miss Leah Kerr, with Miss Gracie McKay second. At the end of the competition Chief Len McKenzie presented the cups and medals, Mr. W. Ballantyne presenting the memorial cup. Several selections were played by the pipe band and after supper there was dancing to music provided by Mrs. McGowan. Mr. J. Stirling was M.C The next function will be the children's party, postponed from Christmas.
