ENGLISH SOCCER VISIT
Lessons learnt from the Australian Soccer team which toured New Zealand last year resulted in an almost immediate improvement in the standard of the game here, but the real testing time will be this season, when. the New Zealanders try conclusions with the English amateur side. Realising the value of early preparation, the sole selector, for ,the ; Wellington Football Association, Mr. George F. Aers, has chosen 26 local players whom he wishes to meet at the Basin Reserve pavilion at 7.30 p.m. next Wednesday. '
.The selected players are Turkington,, Parton, Haines, «-Gonnell, Hazel, Miles, Hanlon, Boyes, Hindle, Longbottom, Cocks, Reid, Todd,: Leslie, James, Webster, Halley, Quirke, Mclvenzie, Skinner, Gendall, Heath, Thompson, Nicol, N. Gates, and Hatchard.
Yap Ah Pang, a young Chinese, was walking along a, road at Penang, Straits Settlements, in a thunderstorm. A gust blew down a coconut, which struck him on the head, killing him instantly.
