PLAY ON RAIN-AFFECTED WICKETS

SOME BIG SCORES; P. WILSON A CENTURY

Wickets for cricket on-Saturday afternoon, affected by the rain !iich had fallen during the week, were in some cases ''funny." Still, there were batsmen and Bowlers to find matters to their liking, and some excellent performances were registered. In the Wellington Cricket Association's senior grade competition University gave a merry display of batting against Karori at Karori Park. P. Wilson was the principal, and at the close of play he was unbeaten with 137. Lunn was another to score heavily. Hutt were also in scoring mood on the Hutt Recreation Ground, Champness, McCarthy, and Cheevers getting runs in plenty at the expense of Midland, though O'Neill bowled with a good deal of success for his side. Rice and Christophersen saved Kilbirnie from a poor score against "Wellington, for whom Blundell gained good bowling figures, and then Ell was mainly instrumental in preventing an initial collapse by Wellington from going very far. Institute could not do much against Wellington College Old Boys on-Kelburn Park, and Old Boys themselves experienced difficulty in collecting runs, though J. Lamason and Bush saved- the day for the side. There were several good bowling performances in this match.
