MATCHES DESCRIBED

WLBiRNIE V. WELLINGTON

The wicket was greasy and soft, and a wet ball hampered the bowlers at the outset when Kilbirnie met Wellington at Kilbirnie Park The home sid! won the toss, and Parsloe and Rice opened to the bowling of Blundell and Meech. Neither batsman.was in difficulties, but they were not inclined to force matters while conditions were favourable. Only .one 4 had been hit when the first wicket fell at 36, Parsloe1 being beautifully taken by Morgan at short leg. The runs came more quickly during" the next few minutes and' Rice brought oft four straight drives to the boundary. Four, wickets were down for 85 when Christophersen joined Rice, and, after a slowish beginning, the score, was taken to UU at tea time. The not unusual losses occurred after the interval,. and with only-ten runs added. Rice and Wilson were both out. Rice, although he was missed, showed sound form for two and a half -hours, and hit nine 4s. Christophersen carried on till he had made a half-century, but he was aided by a bit of luck. Still, he weathered some uncomfortable moments with Blundell's rising balls, and was pickingl up'his-form as;he went' along. Turnbull'and.J. Ashenden added useful totals, and when the innings finished at 5.10 p.m., the useful score of 210 had been made. Blundell was the most successful bowler, and at times was really difficult. His figures of five for 66 would have been much better if the chances had been taken. ■ Wellington made a poor start, as three wickets fell at 13. Ell and Morgan put a better complexion on affairs, and took the score' to 61 before Morgan was smartly stumped. Whyte ■and Ell carried on till the close when the, total stood at 84 for four wickets. Ell had executed some brilliant strokes in getting-his 44 not-out, but was missed oft a "sitter" at short leg. . An appeal for light about 6.20 p.m. saw the players in the act of leaving the fields but they returned to carry on till-full'time. Details;— ' • • ■ KILBIRNIE. .';.'' First Innings.
