QUEEN ELIZABETH
INTEREST IN BRIGADE WORK
That the interest of , Queen Elizabeth in the St. John Ambulance Brigade is not perfunctory was shown by the letter she wrote after the Jubilee procession, states an exchange.
As the Duchess of York, ■'. she was Commandant-in-Chief of the brigade, and although she had to acknowledge the greetings, of the crowd and watch the two excited little Princesses, her keen eyes, noted the workers among the densely-packed masses on the footpaths.
The next day a letter was received from the Commandant, saying that she had-been much impressed by the way the nurses and ambulance men were doing their work.
The Queen has often drawn atten r tion to the fact that these men and women-who- watch over big crowds are devoting their spare time to the task, and even paying their own expenses to the scene.
Other social welfare interests of the new Queen are the National Council of Girls' Clubs, of which, she was president, and the' National Council of Women, the activities of. which she has always followed.
