The Pittsburgh correspondent of the "New York Times" says that the steel industry Has begun a series of increases in prices which is expected to be followed by another advance in wages and the establishment of a five-dollar day for common labour. The industry is determined to retain the open shop, and these wage increases, coupled with the strengthening' of the employees' representation plan, are expected to give the industry instrumentalities to counteract the organisation drive of the Committee of Industrial Organisation and prevent or minimise the threatened strike. ...... .. .
