CANADIAN FLOUR
INCREASE IN PRICE
UNWELCOME SURPRISE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, February 25.
Dunedin bakers received an unwelcome surprise today when an announcement was made by the Wheat Committee that the price of Canadian flour would be raised from £16 19s 6d to £18 10s, the increase to take effect immediately. This flour' has been available to bakers at the former price since the Wheat Committee commenced importing Canadian wheat six months ago, the object at that time being to give additional work in the milling industry and also to secure the byproducts bran and pollard which were lost when it was the custom to import flour from Canada.
The increase, according to a Dunedin baker, will represent a substantial sum per month in the cost of bread production.
