COINCIDENCE IN WINNERS
Characters from the classic love story "Lorna Doone" literally came to liKe with a vengeance on Saturday, when a horse named Carver Doone won the saddle trot at Winton, and Jan Hidd was successful in a galloping event ut the Waikato Meeting. In the story, Carver Doone is the villain and Jan Ridd the hero. As the horses are allied to different sports, there is no possibility of their clashing.
Nervie's Last made a great efi'ort to win the Moss Davis Memorial Handicap at Epsom. An unusually slow beginning made his contract more difficult, but he finished well. Gold Dredge, besides the dead heat, was second in the Alexandra Park Handicap, and third in the Farewell Handicap. By Rey de Oro from an El Carbine marc. Gold Dredge has rare stamina, and was the only one to put up a fight with the solid Lucky Jack. She has very seldom been .out of the money at Iwo miles.
