REDRAFTING OF RULES

The Rules of Trotting arc in process of redrafting, according to a statement made by Mr. B. S. Irwin, vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, on Wednesday. Additions had been made to the rules from time to time, said Mr. Irwin, without, apparently, any thought as to whether such additions synchronised with other rules.

At the annual conference in July Mr. Irwin pointed out that great difficulty had been experienced with the rules of appeal; some of them were not intelligible. They had simply been added to other rules without being brought into line. The rules could be cut down considerably and simplified. When two eminent lawyers found it difficult to interpret the rules, how could committees dealing with them in some cases only once a year be expected to administer them?
