TAKAKA ISOLATED
EXCEPTIONAL RAINFALL

NELSON, This Day.
Incessant rain "during the past two days has resulted in heavy flooding of rivers in the Golden Bay district. Takaka township became isolated yesterday afternoon when flood waters made road traffic impossible. Similar conditions continued this morning and there were no bread or meat deliveries outside the township today.
In a dip in the road at Waitapu, between the Globe Hotel and the Takaka River bridge, there was about twelve feet of water this morning, while five feet of water flowed across the'main street near the private hospital.' Several houses near the dairy factory were evacuated.
The rainfall in the 48 hours up to 9 aim. today was 5.75 inches. Later in the, morning the rain ceased and there are indications that the flood waters are receding.
