MUNICIPAL COURSE

ATTENTION REPAID

| A good deal of work has;been done oh the municipal links at Berhampore, and the result is that these popular ljnks are in better order than for a long time. The weather has helped, but a great deal of cutting of rough and fairways has been done. The fairways well repay the horse mower.' There are many places where it is impossible to cut the grass with a mower, but where it has been at. work there is nothing to complain about. For a course open to cattle the result is wonderful. Berhampore will always be :a.■favourite'with the occasional golfer, who cannot afford the expense of a "club, and also with the" mid-week ■player who finds ! the low charge 'preferable to that of one of the many fine courses round Wellington. This ■ course will be opened on March 1, and 'before that there will be a burning off of some of the thicker rough. Quite a number of-the ■greens, have been terraced and their surroundings improved, and in several cases boggy drains have been filled in. One can now play out of many such spots

where formerly, if the ball could be found' in the bubbling ooze, a penalty had to be taken by lifting and dropping. This is particularly noticeable at the eleventh and thirteenth. Greens at the thirteenth and seventeenth have been improved for the shot from the tee, and generally the links are now quite enjoyable to the golfer who does not mind exercise.
