v MELBOURNE, February 24. Falstaff enhanced his Newmarket prospects by defeating Hostile and Namakia in the Newmarket Trial at Mentone today. It was Namakia's first race here; she was impressive and should win soon. Pooley Bridge showed a good Cup trial in a brilliant finish to win the Berkshire Mile. The disappointing Conandale will be turned out for an extended spell. Shakespeare has developed lameness in a hind fetlock, but the trouble is not regarded as serious.
