WINTON LINE FOR GORE
! (Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, February 24. The Wingatui-trained horses who took part at the Winton Jockey Club s Meeting won quite a good share of the stake-money. Three, wins, four seconds, and two thirds were registered. After her two seconds on the local course earlier in the month, Silk Paper started a hot favourite for the sprint on the first day. Though she just reached the post in front of Rebel Chief, she seemed to haye a little in reserve. On the second day Rebel Chief turned the tables on her. In her last four starts now Silk Papei has scored a win and three seconds. Half Note, the other Wingatui winner on the first day, showed the foim that had been expected from her-on the second day of the Dunedin Meeting recently. She was ridden a different race, and, coming along, strongly at the finish, downed what looked an unbeatable prospect in Linguist who had not been defeated in her foui previous races. Half Note handled the S°impro Vved by racing, the four-year-old Balboa-Spearmaid gelding Black !Karl gave Wingatui stables their only win on the second day. He came up from Southland some time last season to F. Shaw, but has had very • little racing. On the final day of the recent Dunedin Meeting he finished sixth It is understood he could have been bought cheaply recently. Amy Johnson, Koseman, and Toreador were others placed. The two firstnamed made bold efforts to win on the first day but had to be content with a second each. Amy Johnson looks to have good prospects at Gore. The form at this meeting and at Wingatui beforehand has thrown a good deal of light on.the Gore fields °The speedy Lumiere, second recently to Rebel Mate at Dunedin, should be suited by the smaller track. Travenna will be improved with the race he had at the Dunedin Meeting but he has a lot of weight to carry. If the going is on the slow side, however, his chances will be considerably 6 Almond finished on .-well in both of her races at the Dunedin Meeting and a distance should not be bey°Treblea'ck's form, comprising a second at Wingatui and a third at Winton in as many starts, is due to be rewarded and a win for him during the Gore Meeting would not surprise. Galleon, Trebleack, and Ardchoille have met on two occasions lately and each time they have filled the placings in this order. They are due tp meet again in the Summer Hack at Gore and another interesting duel is promised.
