SIR HARRY LAUDER
VISIT TO DOMINION
WELCOME BY SCOTS
Sir Harry Lauder will arrive at Wet lington on Tuesday by the Awatea, and will spend some weeks in the Do« minion, visiting friends in both islands and fishing at Tongariro and elsewhere. Possibly it was one of his minor jokes that first he was coming to New Zea» land from Australia and then he was not, for as a matter of fact there has never been any doubt about it, and his friends have known of the visit for\ some months now. At any rate the; various Scots societies' in Wellington,, have had no doubts about it, and plans' have been made to welcome him here.
Last night these plans were com« pleted at a meeting of representatives of all Scots societies and clubs in Wellington, presided over by Mr. J. G. MacKenzie. It was decided that the various societies and clubs should join iti extending to Sir Harry Lauder a hearty welcome at the ship's side on. Tuesday morning and again on Thursday evening in the Masonic Hall. Tha evening function will take the form of a traditional welcome with full musical honours, followed by a programme of vocal and instrumental music. After Sir Harry has responded, supper will be served, and a dance programme will' follow, chiefly of Scottish dances. ...
On Wednesday evening Sir Harry; Lauder will be the guest of the Welling" ton Travel Club at the Hotel St. George, and the speakers will be a Minister cf the Crown, Mr. G. G. Stewart, the chairman of the club, and Mr. R. H. Nimmo, president of the Wellington Burns Club.
