The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) and the Minister ol Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) are to leave Wellington this evening on a tour of the South Island. They are to return to Wellington on February 23. : C:

The Minister of Justice (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) left Wellington this afternoon accompanied by Mr. H. S. Bailey (Chief Secretary to the Victorian Government) on a tour of inspection of prison farms and afforestation areas in the Waimarino and Rotorua districts.

The Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) is to ■leave Wellington this evening . for Christchurch.

Members of the Government Party, after completing their discussions in caucus last evening, took opportunity to farewell the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage), who is to represent New Zealand at the Coronation, the Minister of Labour (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong), who is to leave in the near future for Geneva, and Mr. E. .J. Howard, M.P., Chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives, who is a delegate to the Empire Parliamentary Association Conference, London. Tha Speaker (the Hon. W. E. Barnard) presided. The Ministers and Mr. Howard were assured of the party's good will and best wishes for a successful tour.

Mr. E. E. Wallace, supervisor, General Post Office, left last night to take up his new duties as supervisor at Christchurch.

Mr. C. P. Smith, officer in charge of the Labour Department at New Plymouth, formerly: of Wellington'l and Wanganui, has received notice of his transfer to Auckland. Mr. . Smith will be succeeded at New Plymouth by Mr,. F. Wilson, of Christchurch. .-,',. ~'."■

Mr. G. F. Grieve, senior inspector and also inspector of awards in the Labour. Department in Auckland, has been promoted to the position of officer in.: charge of the Labour Department -in Dunedin. Mr. Grieve will be succeeded in Auckland, by Mr. C. "P. Smith, at present senior inspector at New Plymouth. Mr. Grieve will .replace .;■ in' Dunedin Mr. G. Lightfoot, who has retired on acocunt of ill health. He is a barrister of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and he joined -the Department about 20 years ago,-after war service in France.

Mr. W. K. McAlpine, chairman .oft the Lyttelton Harbour Board, and thw secretary, Mr. C. H. Clibbom, who have been attending a conference of harbour boards at Wellington, returned to the South Island last night. Mr. W. Begg, who represented .the Otago Har^r bour Board, returned to Dunedin last night.

Mr. P. Martin-Smith, M.A., LL.B., Dip.Ed., formerly of Wellington, ha 9 been appointed tutor-organiser for the Workers' Educational Association in the Wellington and Hawke's Bay districts, and has taken up his residence in ' Falmerston North. 'Mr. MartinSmith is a keen follower of the Rugby, code and has been prominently associated with the game in university circles. ;

Mr. Glio'n Curtis, jun., Vice-Consul for America, who has been appointed to the staff of the American Consulate in Wellington,-is due at Auckland on Saturday. He is accompanied by his wife. Mr. Curtis served previously' in Budapest, Hungary, and in Washington,

Mr. B. M. Wilmshurst, the new Town Clerk at Upper Hutt, will commence his duties on Monday.

Dr. H. L. Bowell, of the staff of the Porirua Mental Hospital, has been appointed assistant radiologist -at the Auckland Hospital. •, ■
