"ABSOLUTE DISGRACE"
WATERSIDE WORK
AUCKLAND OPERATIONS
(By TJelegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day.
In a reference to changing labour conditions at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, the chairman (Mr. C G. Macindoc) said that waterside workers were getting more money and had reduced their hours.
"The operations of the port so far as waterside workers are concerned arc an absolute disgrace. In Auckland and in the other main ports work is restricted to an absolute minimum, and that is a serious charge on the primary producers of the country," said Mr. Macindcie.
In ollaer ports, where ships used their own gear, for handling cargo, twice tbe amount of work was done compared with what was done in Auckland with modern facilities. The question, would have to be considered by those employing labour, and the board, which was vitally affected, would have to do something to see that the position was corrected.
