AUSTRALIA IN WASHINGTON (Received February 10, 11.25 am.) SYDNEY, This Day. Australia's first diplomatic represen- - tative in a foreign country' is Mr. Keith, an officer who formerly was the Australian external affairs officer in London and who will now be attached to the staff of the British Embassy at Washington with the rank of Australian Counsellor. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in making the announcement, said that the decision to adopt this form of. representation had been made after consultation with the British Government. The system would be similar , to that employed for twelve years to maintain direct contact between the Commonwealth Government and the British Foreign Office.
