CUSTOS FOR AUSTRALIA

(By TelcgrapVi-'-Pi'ess Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. When the three-year-old Custos came bade to Biccarton after racing at Trentham last month it was decided to have him gelded and spelled for several months before being raced again next season. Before these arrangements could be put into effect, however, there was a change of plans. An inquiry came for him from Australia, and when his owner, Mr. C. N. Draper, arrived in Christchurch yesterday from Dunedin, the sale was finalised. The colt leaves on the Marama this week for Melbourne. Custos was a good two-year-old last season, and he showed some useful form in Australia early this season, though he has not done so well since his return to the Dominion. He is a chestnut son of Lord Warden and the Sunny Lake mare Matata, and he cost Mr. Draper 200 guineas as a yearling.
