CORONATION ORDERS

EARL MARSHAL DIRECTS

The Earl Marshal, the Duke of Norfolk, as foreshadowed in the ''Daily Telegraph" 011 December 14, has issued orders that coronets will be worn by peeresses attending the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. His orders, issued in the "London Gazette" for the dress to be worn by peeresses repeat the directions of the orders given for the Coronation of King Edward VIII, with important addition concerning coronets. i This change in the official Order is made necessary by the ceremony of the crowning of the Queen at the forthcoming Coronation. It is at that moment in the Coronation service that the assembled peeresses put on their coronets. Coronets will be according to the degree of the peeress—ranging from the circle or rim with six silver balls upon it worn by a baroness, to the duchess's circle with eight strawberry leaves, all of equal height. The Order further states: "And that the caps of all the said coronets be ofj crimson velvet turned up ermine with a gold tassel on the top." Feathers and veils will not be worn.i but a tiara must be worn. The "Gazette" also contains an Order for the dress of peers in the same terms as that issued for the Coronation of King Edward VIII.
