LIVESTOCK SALES
VALUES FIRM
BUT EASING AT BURNSIDE
Values for livestock generally continued to be firm at the sales held yesterday. Beef, however, showed a considerable easing at Burnside, and mutton in the latter stages of the sale was hard to quit. Cows and heifers made late rates, and fat lamb prices were on a par with last week's.
Another improvement in beef values resulted from the comparatively short market of good quality cattle at Westfield. "Rallies ranged to 34s a 1001b, equal to those obtaining until the decrease six weeks ago. Small entries and higher values characterised all the sections of the sheep sale. Prices improved up to 2s a head, although good quality sorts were scarce. Calf values rose sharply, recovering the amount of the decline recorded last week. In a much smaller offering fair quality was available. Pig prices were firmer by about 2s all round, although porkers failed to recover the drop caused "by the depressed export buying last week on • account of the freezing workers' dispute. Bidding was considerably more brisk, and the shorter delivery of pigs sold readily, with exporters again operating freely. WAIRARAPA VALUES.
