DESTRUCTIVE MOOD
MAN WITH A GRIEVANCE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day.
Claiming that he had been unjustly treated Konald Laurence Morrison, aged 29, engineer, for the second time within a few months sought arrest yesterday by breaking a pane of glass in a telephone cabinet. ,He was charged this morning with being drunk, and further with mischief by breaking glass valued at 4s. He denied the charge of drunkenness, and pleaded guilty to the second. The police said that Morrison was lame, suffered from diabetes, and lived with his aged mother, who was worried because of his drinking.
Morrison complained to the Magistrate that whereas an able-bodied man obtained sustenance of 17s 6d a week, he, although he required a special diet, received 10s a week. The Magistrate, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, said that special tribunals were appointed to see that such applicants got justice. He imposed a fine of 10s-for drunkenness, prohibited the accused, and ordered him to pay the damage, in default 24 hours' imprisonment.
